B.C.'s best known music divas

B.C.'s best known music divas joined forces last night to raise awareness and money for war-torn Uganda.

Pop star Sarah McLachlan and jazz crooner Diana Krall turned up at the packed premiere of a locally produced and directed film called Uganda Rising, which spotlights the plight of children trying to survive civil war in the stricken region.

"I'm really getting education on the issue" said McLachlan. "There's a huge lack of knowledge on Uganda, and we're really only finding out how bad it is now. It seems like celebrities have to get involved, because governments aren't interested."

Krall meantime, said Vancouver is the perfect city to raise money for the cause.

"I'm really aware of the problems in Uganda, and people need to know even a small amount of money really helps. We managed to raise nearly two and a half million at a cancer benefit here recently and that just shows how incredibly generous this city is. We are a force to be reckoned with."

The movie premiere was followed by a gala party to raise money for relief efforts in Uganda. Between worthy causes, both McLachlan and Krall have been working on new albums due out later this year.
